Variable-Area
Below, the process fluid flows through
our meter at a rate of 3 GPM. The flow causes our sensor, a
spring-loaded cone/magnet assembly, to move from a large precision
orifice. As flow increases, the sensor magnet moves towards the
pointer magnet and the reed switch to actuate. The cone-orifice
combination results in variable-area flow measurements and an
easy-to-read linear scale. The reed switch alerts the user of
problem conditions.
The process fluid flows through the
entire meter by way of the variable-area orifice and then the
openings in the flow cone and magnet.
Our fixed orifice flowmeters (not shown)
use a similar design but there is a single small orifice/diaphragm
assembly that allows for readings on a square root scale. This
design is intended for low flow and clean fluid applications.
